A private day trip from Marrakech into the High Atlas. Berber villages, walking the Imlil Valley, a homemade lunch with a local family — and the silence of the mountains, all in one unforgettable day.

For this day trip, a private guide gives you a unique introduction to the Atlas Mountains and the daily life of the people who live there. Just 90 minutes south-west of Marrakech, the world changes — terraced fields, walnut orchards, mud-brick villages, and the tallest peak in North Africa watching over it all.

You will walk through the Imlil Valley at your own pace, meet the families who farm these slopes, and share a traditional lunch on a terrace with a view of Mt Toubkal. It is the High Atlas distilled into one day, intimate and slow.

Day by day

Itinerary

Day 1 · Valleys, Berber villages and Waterfalls

We will pick you up from your hotel at 9:00 a.m. and drive southwest of Marrakech toward the majestic High Atlas Mountains. During the 90-minute journey, we will make several stops along the way so you can admire the breathtaking landscapes and take memorable photos.

Before reaching Imlil, we will visit a women’s argan oil cooperative where you will learn about the traditional process of producing argan oil and enjoy tasting some of their local products.
From Imlil, we will begin a scenic walk through traditional Berber villages, waterfalls, and the lush valleys surrounded by terraced farmlands.

We will then stop for a delicious homemade lunch prepared by your guide’s mother in a traditional Berber family home. Lunch will be served on a terrace with stunning views of Mount Toubkal and its sister peaks.

After a memorable day in the Atlas Mountains, we will drive you back to your hotel, arriving around 5:00 p.m.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, you will also have the opportunity to visit a lively traditional Berber farmers’ market.

Special information

The walk can be adjusted to be more or less challenging — completely up to you. For those who prefer not to walk, the driver will take you in our SUV all the way up to the village for lunch.
